Welcome to johnpauljonesmusical.com, home of the stage musical John Paul Jones by Scottish composer Julian Wagstaff.
The show tells the remarkable true story of the son of a gardener from
Scotland, who became a hero of the American Revolution as the
'father of the American navy'. Jones's tale is one of triumph and adventure, love and loss, and the
effect of one man's consuming ambition on those closest to him - with great music and a riveting storyline...
To date, John Paul Jones has enjoyed two highly successful productions: the 2001 community production presented by The Freedom Company, and the professional concert production of 2010 (excerpts above), produced in association with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and featuring Consort of Voices and special guest soloists. The 2010 production was presented at Edinburgh's Queen's Hall, to an enthusiastic response, and featured a revised script created in collaboration with London-based film and television writer Joel Jenkins.
Building on the success of this production, composer Julian Wagstaff has teamed up with executive producer David Williams (former general manager of Scottish Ballet) to take John Paul Jones forward to UK and international touring.
